Event overview
The Dashing to Summer’s End event offers two distances:
- 5k
- 10k
It takes place at Belle Haven Park in Alexandria, VA, and uses the paved Mount Vernon Trail with views of the Potomac River. Walkers and strollers are welcome. A virtual race option is available. The event supports the EOD Warrior Foundation, which provides financial assistance and support to wounded, injured, or ill EOD personnel and their families and maintains the EOD Memorial.
Course and services
The course is paved with minimal elevation change. The 5k is an out-and-back route along the Mount Vernon Trail. The 10k follows the same route and continues about 1.55 miles farther before a second turnaround. Water stations: four on the 10k (approx. miles 0.9, 2.5, 4, 5.55) and two on the 5k (approx. miles 0.9, 2.5); Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restroom facilities are on site. Packet pickup is available at the event.
Registration, timing, and awards
Entry fees listed by date: 5k : $30 until Aug 31 ($35 after); 10k : $45 until Aug 31 ($50 after). Price increases by $5 on race morning. T-shirts are guaranteed for registrations before Sept 1; extras are first-come first-served. The event is chip timed and provides a finisher’s coin and a technical shirt. Live results will be posted on Athlinks and via a QR code at the race; final results with series points are posted the Monday after the event. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in standard age groups; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards.
