Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races
The Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races have taken place in Dartmouth continuously since 1907. This makes the event one of the oldest road races in North America. Currently managed by the Dartmouth Natal Day Road Race Association, the event operates as a not-for-profit competition with support from the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- A 2-mile race.
- A 6-mile race.
The events are held on a 2-mile loop course that travels through historic downtown Dartmouth. Both the start and finish lines are located on Ochterloney Street, directly in front of the 250-year-old Christ Church. Following the completion of the races, a reception and awards presentation are held for participants.
The event is integrated into the larger Natal Day festival weekend. The annual Natal Day Parade passes through the start-finish area shortly after the races conclude. While the races attract elite runners from across the province, the event maintains a focus on family participation across multiple generations. Historically, proceeds from the race have been donated to local food-security charities, including Feed Nova Scotia and the Christ Church food bank.
