Dartmoor in a Day Ultra
Dartmoor in a Day is an off road challenge across Dartmoor with two distance options. The full route covers approximately 50 km from Okehampton to Ivybridge and the shorter option covers 30 km from Postbridge to Ivybridge. The 30 km route follows the latter part of the 50 km course.
- 50 km from Okehampton to Ivybridge
- 30 km from Postbridge to Ivybridge
The route passes notable locations including the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper River Avon, the Dartmoor Volcano and views along the Erme valley out to sea. Much of the course crosses wild areas of open moor and is almost entirely off road.
Participants are supported by qualified Mountain Leaders who act as mobile marshals and assist with route choice between checkpoints. There are checkpoints at two road crossings, with refreshment available at Postbridge and Combestone Tor. A GPX file and maps for use with apps are provided; paper map references are OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor. The event finishes at Ivybridge Community College where finishers collect a memento and food and drink are available. The event is described as a challenge with generous final checkpoint cut off times and transport to the finish for those who cannot complete the route.
