Dartmoor in a Day Ultra
The event is a cross Dartmoor challenge held as both a race and a walk. The main route runs from Okehampton to Ivybridge and is approximately 50 km (30 miles), almost entirely off road and mainly across wild areas of open moor. A shorter 30 km option starts at Postbridge and follows the remainder of the same route.
Highlights along the route include the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano and views along the Erme valley out to sea. Both distances finish at Ivybridge Community College where participants collect a finishers memento; food and drink are available there.
Maps and navigation resources are provided. A GPX file is available and organisers recommend using the Outdoor Active app alongside paper maps such as OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor. Full information on mandatory and suggested kit is supplied in the participant handbook.
The event is presented as a challenge rather than only a race. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are described as generous and transport to the finish is available for those who do not complete the distance.
