About the race
Dartmoor In A Day is a fully supported off road event that crosses Dartmoor, open to runners and walkers. Two route options follow mostly wild, open moorland and remote terrain, with a mix of valleys, tors and river crossings.
- 50 km (Ultra)
- 30 km (Challenge)
The full route starts at Okehampton, passes through Postbridge and finishes at Ivybridge Community College. The 30 km option starts at Postbridge and then follows the remainder of the 50 km course. Highlights along the route include the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon, the Dartmoor Volcano area and views along the Erme valley to the sea.
Navigation resources include downloadable maps for the Outdoor Active app, a GPX file, and recommendations to use OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor paper maps. Entry fees include GPS tracker hire. Qualified Mountain Leaders provide mobile marshal support, route assistance and first aid cover on remote sections. There are checkpoints with refreshment at Postbridge and Combestone Tor, and food and drink at the finish. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are generous and transport to the finish is available for participants who do not complete the route. An optional coach shuttle from Ivybridge Community College to the starts is offered. Under 18s may take part if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
