Dartmoor in a Day Ultra
Dartmoor in a Day is an off-road challenge open to runners and walkers that crosses Dartmoor from Okehampton to Ivybridge. The route passes Postbridge and includes moorland terrain and coastal views along the Erme valley.
- 50 km route from Okehampton to Ivybridge
- 30 km option starting at Postbridge
The course is approximately 50 km (30 miles) and is almost entirely off road, mainly across wild areas of open moor. Notable points on the route include the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano, and views out to sea.
The event is organised as a challenge with generous cut off times at the final checkpoint. Transport to the finish is available for participants who do not complete the distance. Qualified Mountain Leaders provide support and guidance; leaders act as mobile marshals and can assist with route choice between checkpoints. Walking or running with leaders is optional.
Maps for use with the Outdoor Active app can be downloaded and a GPX file is available. OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor maps are recommended. Full information on mandatory and suggested kit is provided in participant handbooks. Checkpoints with refreshments are located at Postbridge and Combestone Tor.
