Dartmoor in a Day Ultra - Climb South West
Dartmoor in a Day takes place on 5 September 2026 and offers two distance options. Entries open at 9am on 10/10/25.
- 50 km Ultra (approximately 50 km / 30 miles)
- 30 km Challenge
The route starts at Okehampton and finishes at Ivybridge, with the 30 km option starting in Postbridge and following the remainder of the 50 km route. The course passes through moorland and notable locations such as the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder's Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano and views along the Erme valley out to sea.
The route is almost entirely off road and mainly across wild areas of open moor. Maps can be downloaded for use with the Outdoor Active app and a GPX file will be available; paper map references are suggested in participant information. Full details of mandatory and suggested kit are provided in participant handbooks.
Qualified Mountain Leaders act as mobile marshals and assist with route choice between checkpoints. There are refreshment checkpoints at two road crossings, located at Postbridge and Combestone Tor. The event finishes at Ivybridge Community College where finishers receive a memento and food and drink are available. Cut off times are generous and transport to the finish is available for those who do not complete the distance. An optional coach shuttle will be provided to take participants to the start. Under 18s may take part if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
