Event Overview
Dartmoor in a Day Ultra is a challenge event offering two distances: a 50 km ultra and a 30 km challenge. Both are scheduled for September 5, 2026. Participants can choose to race, jog, or walk. The event is described as a challenge rather than just a race, with generous cut-off times at the final checkpoint.
Route Details
The 50 km route starts in Okehampton, passes through Postbridge, and finishes at Ivybridge Community College. The 30 km challenge starts in Postbridge and follows the latter part of the 50 km route. The course is almost entirely off-road and traverses wild areas of open moor. Notable highlights along the way include the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano, and views along the Erme valley and out to sea.
Event Support and Logistics
Two checkpoints will provide refreshments, located at Postbridge and Combestone Tor. Qualified Mountain Leaders will act as mobile marshals, offering route assistance between checkpoints; participants are free to walk or run with them or independently. An optional coach shuttle service is available to transport participants to the start before the event. Transport from the final checkpoint to the finish will be provided for anyone unable to complete the distance. At the finish at Ivybridge Community College, finishers will receive a memento, and food and drink will be available.
Participation and Preparation
Participants under 18 are allowed if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The 30 km challenge is noted as achievable for anyone with a good level of walking or running fitness, while the 50 km distance should not be underestimated. Participants are advised to use maps OL 28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000), alongside the Outdoor Active app where maps can be downloaded. A GPX file is also available for GPS users. A participant handbook contains full information on mandatory and suggested kit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
