DalesRunner 40

The DalesRunner 40 is a trail running event based at The Dales Bike Centre in Reeth, serving as the final race in the DalesRunner series. The course starts and finishes in Swaledale, traversing a variety of terrain including hard-packed footpaths, moorland tracks, grassy pastures, and short road sections. Participants follow a route that offers views of Wensleydale and Pen Hill.

The course features significant landmarks such as the Maiden Castle Iron Age Hill Fort, Whitaside Moor, and the Bolton Estate. Runners pass through the village of Carperby and by the historic Castle Bolton before returning via Dent’s Houses and Sharrow Hill. Due to the varied surfaces, the use of trail shoes is recommended.

Available distance:

  • 40 km (approximate marathon distance)

The event utilizes a tracker system and participants are provided with a GPX trace for navigation, as the route is only partially marked. A specific cut-off point is located at Dent’s Houses (approximately 7.5 miles into the race). Participants who do not reach this point by the designated time are redirected to a shorter half-marathon course called the Harkerside Hustle.

The registration fee includes access to fully stocked aid stations with vegan and gluten-free options, as well as a post-race hot meal consisting of soup and a roll. On-site car parking is available at the venue. The minimum age for entry is 16, and all participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
