CVFD Firehouse 5K
The Crozet Volunteer Fire Department hosts a community athletic event in Crozet, Virginia, starting and finishing at the CVFD firehouse located on Three Notch'd Road. These races support the local fire department, which has served the Western Albemarle community and surrounding areas like Afton Mountain, Ivy, and Whitehall since 1910.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 1/4 mile (Kids Fun Run)
- 5 km (Firehouse 5K)
The 5 km race is not officially timed and covers a distance of 3.1 miles. The route begins and ends at the firehouse. The event schedule begins with the 1/4 mile dash for children, followed by the longer distance run. Registered participants for the 5 km event receive a pancake breakfast as part of their registration fee. Event shirts are also available for those who register.
In addition to the running events, the day includes a pancake breakfast prepared and served by firefighters and volunteers. Attendees who are not participating in the races are welcome to attend the breakfast and provide donations to the department. The event also features tours of the firehouse and various activities for visitors to learn about the station, which responds to over 1,000 calls annually across a 147 square mile area.
