Culpeper Triathlon
The event takes place at Mountain Run Lake Park at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Culpeper, VA. The festival weekend includes Olympic and Sprint triathlons and a separate non-timed gran fondo with 32, 62 and 100 mile options.
Swim courses use time trial starts and rectangular loops marked by yellow turn buoys and orange sighting buoys every ~75 meters. Organizers expect water temperatures around 80–82 F in late July, so wetsuits are not likely to be legal; an official temperature reading is posted the Friday before the event. Bike courses run on well paved, low-traffic roads through farmland with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains; both Olympic and Sprint routes contain short steep climbs and technical descents. Approximate bike elevation figures referenced by the organizer are 1,060 ft for the Olympic route and 702 ft for the Sprint route. Run courses are rolling out-and-back loops that pass views of Mountain Run Lake and the mountains; listed run elevations are about 296.3 ft (Olympic two-loop course) and 155.8 ft (Sprint one-loop course). Aid stations are located about every mile and offer ice water and Gatorade.
Race categories include Overall, Masters, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena and Relay Teams; events are USA Triathlon sanctioned and 1-day USAT licenses are available at registration if needed. Packet pickup occurs at the race site on the Friday before and the morning of race day; athletes must collect their own packets and present photo ID.
