Cross Country Team Challenge
The Cross Country Team Challenge is a team-based running event designed to resemble a high school-style cross country meet. The main competition is a 5K race on a course that features mowed grass, packed dirt, and gravel. It uses standard team scoring, where the top five finishers from each team count towards the team's total points.
Teams typically consist of 5 to 7 individuals, with categories for female, male, and coed teams. Event organizers can help individuals without a full team form one, and participants are also allowed to run unattached from any team. A free, untimed community 1 mile fun run is also offered and is open to both youth and adults.
The event is held at Richmond Park in Grand Rapids. The 5K race is chip-timed. A detailed awards structure is in place, with prizes in the form of gift cards to Gazelle Sports for top individual finishers, masters runners, and winning teams in several categories.
