Cross Country Team Challenge
The Cross Country Team Challenge is organized as a high school style cross country meet using standard scoring on a 5K course. Teams can range from five to seven members, with the top five finishers on each team counting toward the team score. Coed teams must include at least one member of the opposite gender; team composition otherwise is flexible. Participants may also register unattached and run solo.
Registration allows individuals to register only themselves, part of a team, or all members at once. The first person from a group who registers can create a team name and invite others to join. Organizers offer assistance forming teams when a full roster is not available.
The event takes place at Richmond Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The 5K course surface includes mowed grass, packed dirt, and gravel; it will be well marked and led by cyclists. The 5K race is chip timed. A free Community Fun Run of 1 mile is offered for youth and adults; that mile is untimed and its participants are not eligible for awards.
Awards are provided with support from Gazelle Sports. Individual and team awards include small Gazelle Sports gift amounts for overall and masters winners, a middle of the pack award, and team awards by category including male, female, coed, and masters divisions. A most spirited team award will be selected by race day volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
