Event Overview

The Croom Fools Run is an annual trail running event taking place in April. It is held in the Withlacoochee State Forest near Brooksville, Florida. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the event.

Distances

The event offers three race distances:

  • 50 Mile
  • 50K
  • 16 Mile

Course Description

All races take place on a looped course using the Croom Hiking Trail. The main trail is a 16-mile loop. The terrain features central Florida's long leaf pines and scrub oak covered hills, creek bottoms, and cypress ponds.

  • The 50 Mile race consists of 3 loops of this course.
  • The 50K race consists of 2 loops.
  • The 16 Mile race consists of 1 loop. There is an 8:00 PM race cutoff time.

Aid Stations

There are 3 aid stations positioned along the loop course. Due to the looped format, runners in the 50M and 50K races will pass through the main staging area during the race and can access drop bags. Aid stations provide water, sports drink, gels, and some food. The total number of aid station passes varies by distance.

Participant Information

The event has a total participant limit of 250 runners, with a separate limit of 125 runners for the 16-mile race. Race packet pickup is available on Friday evening before the race at the Tucker Hill start/finish area, and also on race morning.

Included with Registration

All pre-registered runners receive a full-color, short-sleeved technical shirt. Every participant receives a finisher award. Overall and Masters awards are also presented for each distance. A post-race picnic includes burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, chips, fruit, and cookies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
