Crazy Legs 10k+ Trail Run : Devils Backbone Open Space
The Crazy Legs 10k+ Trail Run is held at Devil's Backbone Open Space in Loveland, Colorado. The organizer announced the 2026 edition is the final running of this event and it will not continue in 2027, citing declining registration and difficulty securing sufficient volunteers to manage a trail race safely.
The course is a looped trail route that begins and finishes at the Devil's Backbone parking lot and uses the Hidden Valley, Hunter Loop, Laughing Horse Loop, and Wild Loop trails. The route is marked with flour arrows and repeats a few short sections to reduce two-way traffic on the singletrack. A water stop is located near the 3-mile point and is encountered twice; the aid station supplies water and Gatorade and is staffed by volunteers from the Loveland High School Band with a donation provided in appreciation. Finishers receive a stick that indicates overall placing and should be returned promptly.
Operational notes: a parking pass for Devil's Backbone Open Space is required or vehicles may be ticketed. If trails are closed due to muddy conditions, registrations will be transferred to the following year because the event cannot be rescheduled. All entrants are offered a hat with a random patch. An awards ceremony is planned at Loveland Aleworks following the race.
The Crazy Legs Race Series describes its broader purpose as promoting non-pavement and pavement races in Northwest Indiana and includes an acknowledgement of the Indigenous nations connected to the land used for those events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
