Crane 5K Fun Run

The Crane 5K Fun Run takes place at Gray's Lake in Des Moines, Iowa. This community event features a 5 km (3.1 miles) course that utilizes the paths around Gray's Lake and Waterworks Park. The event is designed to be inclusive, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities. The course is both dog-friendly and stroller-friendly.

The race supports the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus (YSHC), a facility that provides stable housing and on-site services for 140 residents. The paper crane is used as a symbol for the event to represent transformation and new beginnings for those transitioning out of homelessness. Many residents of the YSHC participate in the event alongside community members, often completing their first ever 5 km walk or run after preparing with a weekly Walking Club.

Participants can expect the following at the event:

All registered participants are entered into a raffle for a chance to win a Tundra YETI Cooler. Food and drinks are provided for participants following the completion of the course.
