The Cow Chip Classic Run/Walk takes place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Prairie Du Sac, WI. The event is the 45th annual running of the race and is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw. Distances offered:
- 10K
- 5K Run/Walk
All racers begin in Prairie du Sac and cross the Wisconsin River. The 10K route climbs "Heartbreak Hill," passes the Lake Wisconsin Golf course, and returns to Prairie du Sac. The 5K route turns onto Golf Road for part of the distance and then turns back into town.
Logistics and services
The event is sponsored by the Sauk Prairie Community Club and all proceeds are donated back into the community. Timing is by chip timing; transponder chips are attached to the race bib. The race starts next to Marion Park at the corner of Grand and Fourth (near the outdoor pool). Animals are not allowed on the race course or in the park.
Age divisions for both distances include 0-14, five-year brackets through 70, and 70 & over for male and female categories. Plaques are awarded to winners and medals to 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Services listed include refreshments and snacks after the race, plus restrooms and showers. Packet pickup and registration are handled at Marion Park, with an early pickup on the Friday before the race and race-day pickup available.
