Country to Capital Ultra : Overview
The Country to Capital Ultra is a point-to-point race of 43 miles that serves as an opener to the ultra running season. The event attracts runners from Britain and abroad. The start is at the Shoulder of Mutton Pub in Wendover (HP22) and the finish is at the Stowe Centre near the Little Venice canal basin in London (W2), close to Paddington and Royal Oak stations. Prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers. All finishers receive a medal and event merchandise.
Course, support and logistics
The route mixes country trails, roads and canal towpath: 11.0 miles cross-country trails (26%), 12.1 miles roads and paths (28%), and 20 miles canal towpath (46%). Total elevation is listed as +1375 ft (419 m) and -1720 ft (-524 m). The course is waymarked but requires navigation; an electronic tracker is provided as standard and organisers also supply voice navigation via ridewithGPS.
There are 5 checkpoints offering water and snacks. A single competitor bag (maximum UK carry-on size 56 x 45 x 25 cm) is transferred to the finish. The race has an overall cutoff of 11 hours and is restricted to competitors aged over 18. Mandatory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone, powerbank, at least 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, torch and spare batteries, hat and gloves, and a long-sleeved base layer or fleece.
