Country to Capital Ultra - Overview
The Country to Capital Ultra is a point-to-point ultramarathon of 43 miles from The Shoulder of Mutton Pub in Wendover to The Stowe Centre near the Little Venice canal basin in London. The next scheduled race date is 10 January 2026. The event is part of a series entry option called the Grand Slam, which groups this race with three other ultras. Entry for the listed race is priced at £80 and includes a GPS tracker. The event is open only to competitors aged 18 and over.
Course, tracking and logistics
The route mixes country trails, roads and canal towpath: 11.0 miles cross-country trails (26%), 12.1 miles roads and paths (28%), and 20 miles canal towpath (46%), with total elevation of +1375 ft and -1720 ft. The course is waymarked but navigation is required; competitors are provided with a Geo Tracks GPS tracker that uploads positions every 10 seconds and is reported as accurate to about 5 metres. There are five checkpoints offering water and snacks. The finish area at The Stowe Centre has showers, toilets and a hall. A single carry-on-sized bag is transferred to the finish for each competitor. Prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers and all finishers receive a medal and event merchandise. The race enforces a mandatory kit list and has an overall cutoff time of 11 hours. Parking is available in local public car parks and at the station; there is no parking at the pub.
