Country to Capital Ultra
The Country to Capital Ultra is a 43 mile race held on 9 January 2027, running from Wendover to the Little Venice area of London. The route begins in Buckinghamshire countryside, follows cross country trails and roads, then continues along the Grand Union Canal towpath into central London. The published course start is the Shoulder of Mutton Pub in Wendover and the finish is near the Stowe Centre, London W2 by Little Venice Canal Basin.
The course composition is described as approximately 11 miles of cross country trails (26%), 12.1 miles of roads and paths (28%), and 20 miles of canal towpath (46%), with total elevation reported as +1375 ft and -1720 ft. The route is waymarked but still requires navigation. Real time GPS tracking is provided via the Geo Tracks app with updates every 10 seconds.
Event logistics include five checkpoints offering water and snacks, baggage transfer of a single carry on sized bag to the finish, and hot drinks at the finish. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. All finishers receive a medal and event merchandise. The stated entry fee is £85 and entrants must be over 18. The organisers set a cut off of 11 hours and require mandatory safety and clothing items such as a charged phone, power bank, water bottles, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, torch, hat and gloves, and a long sleeved base layer. Trail shoes are advised and road shoes are recommended for the canal section if carried.
