Country to Capital Ultra
The Country to Capital Ultra is a 43-mile race from Wendover to the Stowe Centre near Little Venice in central London. The route begins in Buckinghamshire countryside, follows cross-country trails, passes onto roads and paths, then runs along the Grand Union Canal towpath into London.
The course composition is given as 11 miles cross-country trails (26%), 12.1 miles roads and paths (28%) and 20 miles canal towpath (46%), with total elevation roughly +1375 ft and -1720 ft. The route is waymarked but requires navigation. Real-time tracking is provided by a GPS tracker using the Geo Tracks app with updates every 10 seconds.
There are five checkpoints that provide water, snacks and the organiser's fruit cake. The finish area offers hot drinks for finishers. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers, and all finishers receive a medal and event merchandise. A single carry-on-sized bag can be transferred to the finish.
Participants must be over 18 and observe an 11-hour cut off. Mandatory kit includes a fully charged phone, power bank, water bottles, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, torch, hat and gloves, and a long-sleeved base layer. Trail shoes are advised while road shoes are recommended for the canal section if carried.
