Country to Capital Ultra Marathon

Event

Country to Capital is a point-to-point ultra marathon of 43 miles organised by Go Beyond. The race starts at the Shoulder of Mutton Pub in Wendover (HP22 6EJ) and finishes at the Stowe Centre next to the Little Venice canal basin in London, close to Paddington and Royal Oak Tube stations. The event is open only to competitors over 18 and has an overall cutoff time of 11 hours. Prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers; all finishers receive a medal and event merchandise. The race is fully tracked using Geo Tracks GPS devices and live tracking is available for followers.

Course and support

The route passes through Buckinghamshire countryside, crosses the M25 by bridge, and follows the Grand Union Canal towpath into London. Terrain breakdown: 11.0 miles cross-country trails (26%), 12.1 miles roads and paths (28%), and 20 miles canal towpath (46%). Total elevation is +1375 ft (419 m) and -1720 ft (-524 m). The course is waymarked but requires navigation; organisers provide electronic tracking and RideWithGPS voice navigation. There are five checkpoints offering water and snacks, with additional facilities noted near several checkpoints and at the finish. One competitor bag (carry-on size 56 x 45 x 25 cm) can be transferred to the finish. A mandatory kit list is enforced and random kit checks take place before the race.
