Event Overview
The Cottonmouth 8 Mile & Beerlay is an 8-mile trail event held at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina. It combines running with a communal drinking element.
Event Format
The event can be completed solo or as a relay team of 2–4 people. The course is a 2-mile grassy trail loop through the preserve. Each participant runs this loop four times for a total of 8 miles.
Before starting each lap, a runner must drink a beer selected at random from a communal pool. Participants are required to bring four beers (5%+ ABV) to contribute to this pool. Non-alcoholic, carbonated alternatives are permitted. Participants must be 21 or older for the alcohol portion.
Post-Race Activities
A post-race party includes a hot dog bar, music, and complimentary race photos. The event also features "Beer Olympics" with games such as beer pong, tug of war, dodgeball, cornhole, hillbilly golf, and spike ball.
Registration Inclusions
Registration includes a finisher medal, custom race bib, event-themed giveaways, a race sticker, complimentary photos, entry to the Beer Olympics, and chip timing with splits for each lap. The registration fee also covers park entry.
Awards
Awards are given to the top three male and female overall solo finishers. Top three team awards are presented in several divisions: Men's, Women's, Mixed/Open, Masters Male (40+), Masters Female (40+), and Youth (Under 21). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
