OBX Thanksgiving Day 5k Run
The OBX Thanksgiving Day 5k Run is a community event held at the Whalehead Club in Corolla. The event focuses on holiday fellowship and is open to a variety of participants, including runners, walkers, wheelchair users, and those using strollers or joggers. Service dogs are the only animals permitted on the course.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5 km
- 1 mile
- 1/4 mile (Fun Run for children ages 10 and under)
The 5 km course is supported by a bicycle lead, course marshals, and turn arrows. A water station is located at the halfway point. Registration for the 5 km and 1 mile events is limited to 500 participants, while the Fun Run is limited to 50 children.
The event includes chip timing and professional management. All registered participants receive a long-sleeved uni-fit cotton t-shirt and a finisher medal. Following the run, there is a post-race hospitality session featuring a light breakfast and snacks. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers overall, the top three male and female masters (ages 40 and over), and the first-place finisher in age groups at five-year increments.
In addition to the athletic competition, the event organizes a food drive, collecting canned goods and non-perishable items for the local food bank. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
