Event details
The Coon Dog Day event in Saluda, North Carolina includes a 5K and a Saluda Elementary School KIDS' Fun Run. The 5K follows the traditional Coon Dog Day route and uses chip timing for participant results. T-shirts are guaranteed for registrations received by Memorial Day (Monday, May 26). Registration is handled online only; there are no paper forms for late or walk-up registration.
Location and logistics
The race is centered at McCreery Park at the corner of Main Street and Greenville Street in downtown Saluda. Packet pickup is arranged at the Saluda Inn. Parking for the race is available at the First Baptist Church, the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Saluda United Methodist Church and the Saluda Elementary School back (bus) parking lot on Seminary Street. A shuttle is used between festival parking and the downtown area.
Purpose and awards
The 5K is hosted by and raises funds for Saluda Elementary School, with proceeds focused on literacy and other educational resources. Awards are locally made and given by age groups: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+. The kids' run includes clock timing and uses a different route for children.
