Conquer the Dam 5K : event overview
Aging & Family Services of Mineral County organizes the fourteenth annual Conquer the Dam 5K, a fundraising run and walk held at Jennings Randolph Lake in Elk Garden, WV. Proceeds support Mineral County's Meals on Wheels program, which delivers hot, nutritious meals to home-bound older adults and provides wellness checks during deliveries.
The course includes a highlight section where runners and walkers travel over the dam and spillway, areas normally closed to public travel. Jennings Randolph Lake is a 952-acre reservoir on the North Branch Potomac River, spanning Mineral County, West Virginia, and Garrett County, Maryland. The lake was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and completed in 1981.
Participants who cannot attend in person may complete the 5K at a location of their choice on or before May 10 and submit their time along with a photo of the scenery by email. Registration by May 1, online or by mail, guarantees a commemorative T-shirt. Registration fees are listed as $20 for adults and $15 for youth. The event includes adult and youth run and walk categories. Organizers describe the fundraiser as an important support for meal recipients and note that deliveries can provide essential social contact and safety checks.
