Event overview
UltraTrax Wisp takes place on April 11, 2026 at Wisp Resort in McHenry, Maryland, in the Deep Creek Lake region. The event uses a 7-mile loop course with varied terrain and about 802 ft of elevation gain per loop. A portion of registration proceeds supports the Conservation Lands Foundation. Registrations are non-refundable; transfers to a future event are allowed for a fee.
Distances and format
- 7 miles - one full loop.
- 14 miles - two full loops.
- 21 miles - three full loops.
- 28 miles - four full loops.
Participants may complete loops unweighted or carry a weighted vest or ruck of 10, 20, or 35 lb. All distances must be finished within a 10-hour cutoff to earn event patches or medals. Level 3 and Level 4 finishers receive the Grey Wolf medal.
Course and support
The route mixes shaded single-track, punchy climbs, double-track and ski-trail stretches, with exposed ridgeline sections that offer views of Deep Creek Lake. The course is professionally timed, well marked, and staffed with volunteers at key intersections. Aid stations with water, electrolytes, snacks and restrooms are placed approximately every 2.5 to 3 miles. The route finishes back at the resort base where post-event food, drinks, and free professional photos are available.
Additional details
The event is presented as a walking-focused challenge for walkers, hikers and ruckers; running is permitted with requested trail etiquette on narrow sections. Lodging and resort amenities are available at Wisp Resort and in the Deep Creek Lake area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
