Coniston Fell Race
The Coniston Fell Race takes place on Saturday 2 May 2026 in Coniston, Lake District, England. The course is approximately 14 km (8.7 miles) with about 1,065 m (3,494 ft) of ascent and includes checkpoints on the summits of Wetherlam, Swirl How and the Old Man of Coniston, finishing at Peascroft. The venue for registration and race administration is the Coniston Institute, LA21 8DU.
Entry is by pre-entry only via SI Entries, with an entry limit of 300 runners and a minimum age of 18. Pre-entry fees are listed as £10 for FRA members and £15 for non members. There are no entries on the day and substitutions are permitted until entries close on Thursday 30 April 2026. Junior races are not provided.
The event is run under FRA rules and has a permit with associated UK Athletics insurance. Teams of three are allowed and team prizes are awarded to first three men and first three women to count. Course records stand at 01:03:29 for men and 01:17:11 for women.
All entrants must have fell running experience and map and compass navigation skills. Mandatory kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, map and compass, whistle, hat, gloves and emergency food. Navigation by map and compass only is permitted; GPS devices may be used only in an emergency and then the competitor must declare themselves non competitive. Running poles are not permitted. Parking is at Coniston CE Primary School only and there is a car parking charge; parking proceeds and race entry proceeds are donated to local causes including the Coniston Mountain Rescue Team.
