Community Traverse - Lakes Challenge
The event is a 70KM Lake District traverse following a condensed section of Wainwright's Coast to Coast route from St Bees to Patterdale on 20 March 2027. The route combines coastal paths, steep climbs, rocky descents, and mountain terrain and includes some of the route's larger ascents. Conditions can vary significantly depending on weather.
The route is partly waymarked but participants should not rely solely on waymarks for navigation. A GPX file and final route details will be provided in advance. Live tracking will be in place for all participants and a mandatory kit list applies. Participants are responsible for returning issued trackers and for reporting to race control if they withdraw.
Structured checkpoints will be positioned along the route, with key locations including Ennerdale, Borrowdale, and the Patterdale finish. Checkpoints will provide water and hot food with vegan and gluten free options, snacks and race nutrition, indoor access, toilet facilities, and first aid support. Individual checkpoint cut offs will be issued in the final race pack; the overall event cut off is 18 hours. The event is officially registered with the International Trail Running Association and finishers earn ITRA endurance points.
