Commonweal 5 Mile
The Commonweal 5 Mile is an annual five mile race organised by volunteers from the Commonweal School PTA to raise money for The Commonweal School. The event was established in 2012 and takes place on a Sunday morning in mid May, starting and finishing at the school in Old Town, Swindon.
The race is chip timed and is run on a mixture of footpaths, trails and roads through the south Swindon countryside. The course starts and finishes on the school playing field, descends along paths and quiet residential streets from Old Town to a flatter middle section that passes Hall and Woodhouse and the Waitrose supermarket. After passing the lakes and canal in Wichelstowe the final section involves a steady climb back up to Old Town.
The event welcomes buggies and guided runners where the course safely permits, and organisers ask interested participants to check the route and contact them before entering. All finishers receive a medal made possible by South West Mortgages. There is an option to purchase a T shirt for an additional £3, provided the entry is submitted before Tuesday May 5th.
