Course Details
The Columbia River Half Iron is a triathlon with a 1.2-mile swim in the Columbia River, starting from knee-deep water at the Vantage Boat Launch. This is followed by a 56-mile bike ride, described as a slightly hilly out-and-back route toward Ellensburg. The event concludes with a 13.1-mile run down to the Wanapum Reservoir Dam.
Event Information
The event will be held at the Vantage Grand Resort in Vantage, Washington. There are two entry categories: an individual full half iron and a relay team option. A mandatory pre-race briefing will be live-streamed. An optional packet pickup and buffet is offered the day before the race. On race day, bike racking opens at 6:00 AM.
Safety and logistical support include water, Gatorade, and gel stations every three miles on the course, certified lifeguards with AEDs on the swim, and a support vehicle on course. According to USAT rules, wetsuits will be allowed up to a water temperature of 85°F and are mandatory at or below 55°F. All participants must be USAT members, with a one-day membership option available.
Rules & Logistics
Participants must wear an ankle bracelet for the entire event and a bib on the front torso during the run and bike legs, with a penalty for non-compliance. Bike handlebars must be plugged. Helmets and bike labels are required to exit the secured transition area. No flotation devices are permitted during the swim.
