The Race

Cockfield Chase is a fell race organized by Durham Fell Runners and licensed by the Fell Runners Association (FRA). It is designed as a beginner-friendly, off-road event.

The race covers a total distance of 7km with an elevation gain of 160m. It is structured in two laps. The first lap is a group run to view the route. The second lap is the timed race itself, starting immediately after the first lap finishes. No map is required as participants are shown the route on the night.

Registration and Details

Pre-entry is available online. Entry is also available on the day. The entry fee is £5 for FRA members and £6 for non-members. Participants must be at least 14 years old.

The race uses a "bring a prize, win a prize" format, where anyone who brings a prize wins one. A donation was made to Cockfield Primary School and Butterknowle Scouts from the 2024 race profits.

Route and Logistics

The race is run on a two-lap, 7km off-road course near Cockfield village, County Durham. The car park at the top of the village (DL13 5HF) is the designated parking area, with instructions not to park in the village itself.
