Cockfield Chase Fell Race
The Cockfield Chase Fell Race is an off-road running event organized by Durham Fell Runners and licensed by the Fell Runners Association (FRA). The event takes place on the ancient monument of Cockfield Fell. It is specifically designed for those new to fell running, and participants do not require previous experience or a map to navigate the course.
The event follows a format where participants complete two laps of a 3.5 km circuit, totaling a 7 km off-road route. The first lap is conducted as a guided social run to familiarize all runners with the path. Immediately upon completion of this first loop, the competitive race begins for the second lap.
Participants must be 14 years of age or older to enter. The event is open to runners of various abilities, provided they can safely navigate the terrain. Proper off-road running shoes are required for the course. Registration is available in advance or on the day of the event.
Parking is provided at a designated car park at the top of the Cockfield main street, where marshals assist with vehicle placement. On-site facilities include a refreshment stall organized by the Butterknowle Scouts, offering drinks and food. The organizers also coordinate a community prize system where participants who contribute a prize to the collection are eligible to win one.
