About the race
The Harper Digital Coastal Challenge is an urban coastal running and walking event held on Auckland’s North Shore. The event follows sections of the North Shore coastline and includes beach, rock and shallow water terrain, so participants can run, walk, wade, and rock hop along several beaches. All courses finish at Windsor Reserve in Devonport.
The 2027 edition marks the event’s 25th year and uses multiple course options to cover different lengths and routes that start at various North Shore beaches. Organisers have removed disposable cups from aid stations to reduce waste; participants are expected to use a reusable cup, hydration pack, or water bottle. Collapsible silicone cups are available for purchase at event base.
The event emphasises environmental care through initiatives such as encouraging participants to pick up litter while jogging along local coastlines and sharing photos of those efforts. The Coastal Challenge is presented by Total Sport and lists several event sponsor partners.
Available course options include:
- 6 km Beach Hopper run or walk
- 11 km Bay Scrambler run or walk
- 17 km Mini Monty run or walk
- 22 km Mid Monty run
- 33 km Full Monty run or teams relay
The course terrain varies by distance and includes beach running, coastal tracks, and shallow water crossings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
