City to Sky Trail Races
City to Sky takes place Sunday, October 18, 2026 in Missoula, Montana and finishes in the University District. The course includes less than two miles of pavement and extensive single track through local open space, conservation lands and recreation areas.
Distances
- 50K 33 miles, about 8,000 feet elevation gain, multiple mountain summits
- 25K back half of 50K on the House of Sky Ridgeline Trail
The Start/Finish and 25K bus load location is Dornblaser Lewis and Clark Stadium at the University of Montana. The 25K begins at the Pattee Canyon Picnic Area and participants must use the provided shuttle bus to reach that start; runners dropped off near the start will have their bib removed.
Packet pickup is Saturday, October 17 at the Run Wild Missoula office in downtown Missoula. The 50K has mandatory on-course gear including a headlamp, waterproof breathable hooded jacket, space blanket and a 32 oz water carrying capacity; runners must bring their pack with mandatory gear to bib pickup. Trekking poles are allowed.
Timing uses chip timing with multiple splits and live tracking through the Competitive Timing app. Aid stations are cupless so runners should carry a hydration device; stations provide gels, drinks and various snacks. Crewing and pacers are not allowed. Runners must follow safety instructions on course, including running against traffic where directed and waiting for course marshal clearance before crossing roads.
The event emphasizes Leave No Trace land stewardship. Awards are given to top finishers by gender categories and masters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
