Christmas Mountain Run
The Christmas Mountain Run takes place during Thanksgiving weekend in Salida, Colorado. The event serves several purposes, including promoting community connection and raising funds for the Chaffee County Community Foundation. Participants can choose between two distinct distances:
- 5 Miles: A course with approximately 160 feet of elevation gain on roads and gravel or concrete paths.
- 1 Mile: A flat out-and-back route moving along Sackett Avenue.
The 5 mile course starts and finishes near Riverside Park in downtown Salida. The route utilizes city and county roads, as well as pedestrian paths along the Arkansas River and Colorado Parks and Wildlife land. Because some sections involve narrow gravel paths that may be icy, dogs and strollers are prohibited from the 5 mile race. Registration for this distance includes custom race socks, chip timing, a race sticker, and post-race snacks. Awards are presented to top overall finishers and the top three in each 10-year age group, with prize money available for the top three male and female overall finishers and the first-place masters runners.
The 1 mile run is open to participants with leashed dogs and strollers. This event includes chip timing, finisher ribbons, and post-race snacks. All event logistics, including packet pickup and post-race refreshments, are centered at Riverside Park. The races are held on the same day as the annual Christmas Mountain parade and fireworks display in downtown Salida. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
