Christmas Mountain Run - Salida, Colorado
The Christmas Mountain Run takes place in Salida on Thanksgiving weekend and includes a five mile race and a one mile run. Packet pickup, post-race drinks and snacks, and awards are held at Riverside Park in downtown Salida.
Distances:
- 5 miles - out-and-back starting and ending at Riverside Park
- 1 mile - out-and-back on Sackett Avenue
The five mile course is described as scenic and mostly flat, with about 160 feet of elevation gain. It runs on city and county roads and on gravel or concrete pedestrian paths, including sections by the Arkansas River and on Colorado Parks and Wildlife land. Dogs and strollers are not allowed in the five mile race due to insurance restrictions and narrow or potentially icy gravel sections. Registration for the five mile race includes custom race socks, chip timing, a race sticker, post-race snacks, and awards for top overall finishers and the top three in each ten-year age group.
The one mile run is timed, includes a finisher ribbon and post-race snacks, and allows leashed dogs and strollers. Organizers state goals of encouraging health, fitness, community connection, offering a competitive opportunity in Chaffee County, and raising funds for the Chaffee County Community Foundation. Prize money is offered to the top three overall finishers and to the first place masters finisher. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
