Event
The Christmas Mountain races take place in Salida, Colorado on Friday, November 27, 2026. The event includes two timed races:
- 5 mile loop (listed closer to 4.9 miles)
- 1 mile out-and-back
Packet pickup, post-race drinks and snacks, and awards are held at Riverside Park in downtown Salida. All competitors in the one mile receive a participant ribbon.
Course and logistics
The 5 mile course begins and ends on Sackett Avenue in downtown Salida by the front of the Scout Hut. The loop covers a mix of paved roads, dirt or gravel paths, and paved bike paths and has about 158 feet of elevation gain/loss. The route uses the Salida river trail, Franz Lake gravel paths, the Salida Trail System bike path, and sections past the county courthouse. There may be a few snowy or icy spots on the course. All roads and paths remain open to other users, including vehicle traffic, during the event.
The one mile run follows Sackett Avenue for 1/2 mile, turns around, and returns to the finish. Prize money is offered to top overall finishers and the first place masters runners.
