Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is an ultra marathon held in the Chiltern Hills on 17 April 2027 and organised by Runaway Racing. The advertised distance is 50K with 996m of climbing and a 9 hour time limit. Entry is open to runners aged 20 and over with no qualifying standard. The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules, and it is listed as a UTMB World Series index race.
The route starts on the historical grounds of Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover. Runners join the Ridgeway National Trail and pass through the Ashridge Estate, Ivinghoe Beacon, Aldbury, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf Hill. The first 10K runs through the Ashridge Estate and the current course is slightly long at about 51km due to local closures. The route is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons, and marshals are positioned at road crossings and busy sections.
There are three main checkpoints at approximately 14.3km, 29.6km and 41.8km; each checkpoint offers water, electrolyte drink and a selection of food items. Toilets are available at start, finish and at checkpoints, and refreshments are provided at the finish. Coach transfers are available pre and post race. Required kit includes a mobile phone, the route GPX plus a paper map, a jacket or emergency blanket, a refillable 0.5L hydration system, a collapsible cup and cash or card.
