Trail Running in the Chiltern Hills
The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is an ultra marathon that takes place in the Chiltern Hills. The point-to-point route begins at the historic Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover. The course covers a distance of 50 km—currently measuring approximately 51 km due to local path closures—with an elevation gain of 996 m.
The terrain is primarily undulating trail and follows sections of the Ridgeway National Trail. Runners pass through several notable locations, including the Ashridge Estate, Ivinghoe Beacon, Coombe Hill, and Whiteleaf Hill. The route includes ancient woodlands and various viewpoints across the ridgeline.
Participants have a 9-hour time limit to complete the course. The race is fully marked with orange signage and ribbons, and marshals are positioned at road crossings. Runners are required to carry specific mandatory gear, including a mobile phone, a hydration system with at least 0.5L capacity, a collapsible cup, and a digital version of the route.

- Optional coach transfers between the start and finish locations.
