Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K : event overview

The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is a trail ultra running event on 18 April 2026. The point-to-point route starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover. The course follows sections of the Ridgeway National Trail and passes Ashridge, Ivinghoe Beacon, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf Hill. The current route measures about 51 km with 996 m+ of ascent; it is slightly longer than 50 km due to HS2 road and footpath closures around Wendover.

Logistics and race details

The race is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons, and marshals will staff road crossings and busier sections. There are three main checkpoints at roughly 15 km, 29 km and 43 km; aid stations provide water, coke, electrolyte drink, gels and chews, snacks, flapjacks and fresh fruit, and toilets. Satellite water points may be added in hot conditions. Other details: maximum 400 runners, 9-hour overall time limit, licensed by the Trail Running Association and run under UKA rules, UTMB World Series index status, minimum age 20, dogs not permitted. Required items include a mobile phone, route GPX plus paper map, light jacket or emergency blanket, refillable hydration system (0.5 L minimum), collapsible cup and cash or bank card.
