Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K

The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is an ultra trail race on the Ridgeway National Trail in the Chiltern Hills, scheduled for 18 April 2026. The event starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover, with the route passing through Ashridge Estate, Ivinghoe Beacon, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf Hill.

The advertised distance is 50 km, with the current route measuring about 51 km and a total ascent of approximately 996 m. Terrain is all trail and the course is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons; marshals assist at road crossings and busier sections. A GPX file and printable maps are provided, and runners must carry a digital copy of the route as a backup.

There are three staffed aid stations at roughly 15.1 km, 28.9 km and 42.8 km offering water, cola, Precision Fuel and Hydration products, gels, chews, snacks and fresh fruit; additional satellite water points may be added in hot weather. Required kit includes a mobile phone, route GPX plus paper map, light jacket or emergency blanket, refillable hydration system (minimum 0.5 L), collapsible cup and cash or card.

The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. Entry fee is £75 or £73 for affiliated runners, minimum age is 20, maximum field is 400 and there is a nine hour time limit. Coach transfers are available and both Berkhamsted and Wendover have nearby train stations. Refreshments, toilets and pop up changing tents are provided at the finish.
