Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is an ultra marathon held on the Chiltern Hills ridgeline. The route runs between Ivinghoe Beacon and Whiteleaf Hill, following sections of The Ridgeway National Trail and passing through Ashridge Estate. The race starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover. The published route is currently slightly long at about 51 km because of HS2 road and footpath closures, with total ascent of approximately 996 m.
The event is a fully marked trail race with marshals at key points and printed maps available at registration. A GPX file of the course is provided for watches and phones. There are three full aid stations located at roughly 14 km, 30 km and 42 km; each checkpoint includes water, fizzy drinks, Precision Fuel & Hydration products, snacks and fresh fruit, and toilets. Satellite water points may be added in hot weather.
Organisers limit the field to 400 runners and apply a nine hour time limit. Entry is open to runners aged 20 and over with no qualifying standard. The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. Coach transfers are available pre and post race. Required kit includes a mobile phone with an emergency number saved, route GPX plus a paper map, a light jacket or emergency blanket, a refillable water system of at least 0.5 L, a collapsible cup and cash or card.
