Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Classic is a 50K trail ultramarathon held in the Chiltern Hills on 17 April 2027. The route runs along the ridgeline between Ivinghoe Beacon and Whiteleaf Hill, following sections of The Ridgeway National Trail. The race starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover, passing through Ashridge, Ivinghoe Beacon, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf and covering varied terrain and ancient woodlands. The listed elevation gain is 996 m and the current route is noted as slightly long at about 51 km because of HS2-related closures near Wendover.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and is an UTMB World Series index race. Entry is open to runners aged 20 and over with no qualifying standard. The field is limited to 400 participants and the overall time limit is 9 hours. Navigation is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons, supported by marshals at key points; runners are required to carry a digital route file and a paper map is available at registration. There are three main checkpoints at about 14.3 km, 29.6 km and around 42 km, each with toilets; aid stations provide water, Coke, Precision Fuel & Hydration products, gels and chews, snacks and fresh fruit. Required kit includes a mobile phone, route GPX and paper map, a light jacket or emergency blanket, a refillable hydration system (minimum 0.5 L), a collapsible cup and payment method. Other on-site services include coach transfers, finish refreshments, pop-up changing facilities, chip timing with live results, medical support and awards for overall and age-category placings.
