Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Classic is a 50K trail ultra held on 17 April 2027 across the Chiltern Hills. The point to point route starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover, following sections of The Ridgeway National Trail and passing through Ashridge Estate, Ivinghoe Beacon, Aldbury, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf Hill.
The course gains about 996 metres of elevation and is described as undulating and hilly with a mix of ancient woodlands and open ridgeline trails. The current route is slightly long at approximately 51 km due to HS2 related closures around Wendover.
Navigation is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons, supported by marshals at road crossings and course checkers. Runners are required to carry a digital GPX of the route and a paper map is available at registration. A GPX file and route maps are provided by the organiser.
There are three full checkpoints located near 14 km, 30 km and 42 km with toilets at the start, finish and all checkpoints. Checkpoints provide water, electrolyte drink, gels and chews, snacks and fresh fruit. Satellite water points may be added in hot weather.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and follows UKA rules. Other key details include a 9 hour time limit, a maximum field of 400 runners, a minimum entry age of 20 and coach transfer options before and after the race.
