Chiltern Kanter
The Chiltern Kanter is a map reading walk based at Pitstone Memorial Hall, Pitstone LU7 9EY. Participants navigate to grid references and answer questions by routes of their own choice using field paths, tracks, woods and some roads through undulating countryside with views from the hills.

Each course uses a set number of checkpoints: one on the 13 mile route, two on the 18 mile route and three on the 26 mile route. Marked up maps will be displayed at the start; recommended maps are OS LR 165 or OS EXP 181. Organisers will provide grid-question sheets online in advance and these must be downloaded and printed as they will not be available on the day. There are no GPX files.
Entry is by online registration only. Entry fees are LDWA members £13, non LDWA £19.50 and under 18s free. Entry opening and priority periods apply to LDWA members; entries close on 1 January 2027 and entry for all opens on 2 January 2027. There will be no entries on the day, entries are not transferable and substitutions are not permitted.
Essential equipment includes the printed grid-question sheet, a mug, cover for map and sheet, pen or pencil and a small first aid kit. Refreshments and a light meal are included in the entry fee; vegetarian options will be catered for and some vegan options may be available but cannot be guaranteed. Certificates and badges are awarded to participants who answer the questions correctly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
