Chicagoland #LightUpMBC Be A Hero Fun Run
The 6th annual Chicagoland BE A HERO Fun Run & Walk is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Settlers' Park in Plainfield, Illinois. The event is a family-friendly community gathering dedicated to celebrating people living with metastatic breast cancer, honoring those lost to the disease, and raising funds for metastatic breast cancer research through METAvivor Research & Support, Inc.
Event activities include check-in, vendor booths, a Hero Launch, a warm-up, a one-mile Fun Run and Walk, children's activities, food and refreshments, giveaways and raffles, a Thriver Celebration, Hero Remembrance moments, and photo opportunities. Costumes and creative dress are encouraged but not required.
All net proceeds from the Chicagoland BE A HERO event will support metastatic breast cancer research through METAvivor. The organization states that, unless otherwise specified by the donor, 90% of each donation and 100% of net proceeds from fundraisers after event expenses go into research grants. The event listing shows $837.32 raised and 24 participants at the time of posting.
Organizers note the event will recognize Thrivers who have been living with metastatic breast cancer for milestones including seven, nine, and nearly ten years, and will highlight the role of research in extending and improving quality of life for people with MBC.
