About the race
The Chester Round the Walls Race is a Boxing Day road race organised by West Cheshire Athletic Club and first held in 1972. The mass participation event starts and finishes at Chester Racecourse, the Roodee, and follows a route that showcases the Roman city walls. The course is approximately 6 km in length. Runners complete a lap of the racecourse, join the riverside path, then follow the historic city walls in an anticlockwise circuit, passing the Eastgate clock and returning to the racecourse via the steps from Nuns Road.
The race finishes on the grass in the centre of the Roodee. Minimum age is 16 on the day. Entry fees are listed as £22.00 for unattached runners and £20.00 for UKA affiliated runners, with a £2 discount applied at checkout for affiliated entrants. Transfers are permitted until 09:00 on 26 December 2026.
All finishers receive a commemorative item. Prizes are awarded to the first five men and the first five women, plus age-category winners including U/20 and masters categories from O/40 through O/70. The organisers reserve the right to amend or cancel the event and set out a refund policy that excludes third party booking fees and allows limited discretion following cancellation.
