Event Overview
The MBNA Chester Marathon is an annual road race held in the historic city of Chester. As the fifth largest marathon in the UK, the event has transitioned into a highly regarded fixture on the running calendar, receiving multiple accolades and a Gold rating from Racecheck. The event is open to participants of all abilities and age groups, with a minimum age requirement of 18 years on race day.
The Course
The race features a city centre start and finish at the Chester Racecourse. The route is designed to take runners past several of the city's iconic landmarks before heading into the rural landscapes of Cheshire and North Wales. The final segment of the course returns to Chester, following the banks of the River Dee. Supporters often gather along the route, particularly at the city centre finish area, to provide encouragement to participants.
Participant Benefits and Options
Entered runners receive a personalised race pack via post, which includes a race number and an integrated timing chip. Participants have access to training plans, advice, and organized training runs leading up to the event. On the day of the race, logistical support includes on-course hydration and nutrition stations, along with medical assistance. Finishers receive a long sleeve technical T-shirt, a bespoke medal, and a nutrition pack.
The event offers a Green Runner entry option. Participants selecting this category forgo the finisher's medal, T-shirt, and goody bag, with the associated costs donated to the official race charity to reduce environmental waste. Cash prizes are awarded to the top five male and female finishers, as well as winners within specific age categories.
