Chester Kiwanis 5K
The Chester Kiwanis 5K is a community road event held at Carpenter Community Park in Chester, New York, with the course starting just outside the park on Walnut Street. The event includes both a running race and a separate registered walkers category, both covering a 3.1 mile distance on a USATF certified course (#NY13047JG).
Registration carries a fee of $30 and the entry package includes a Stay Dri T shirt, a hot breakfast and entry into on site raffle drawings. Race day bib and T shirt pickup takes place in the Chester Community Park between 7:30 and 8:30. T shirts are set aside for early registrants and are available on a first come first serve basis on race day; unclaimed shirts are not held after the event.
Timing is provided with individual on the spot printed results by a professional timing company. Awards for runners include trophies for the overall top three male and female finishers and medals for the top three male and female finishers in age groups 12 and under, 13 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. Walker awards include trophies for the first place male and female; registered walkers are required to walk the entire route without running.
Proceeds benefit local and regional charities, including school scholarships, children and veterans programs, and community food assistance. The hot breakfast is prepared by the Chester Presbyterian Church and is free to runners with a suggested donation for other attendees. Water, fruit and snacks are available in the pavilion.
