Chessie Trail Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and 26.2 Relay, November 7, 2026
This event is held on the Chessie Nature Trail, a seven mile rail-trail that parallels the Maury River and connects Lexington, Virginia with Buena Vista. The trail surface is smooth gravel and grass, generally about 10 feet wide, and follows a gentle grade along a former rail line and sections of an old canal towpath. The setting includes limestone cliffs, small caves, bamboo stands, farmland, stone lock and dam ruins, and regular wildlife sightings.
Race options include:
- Marathon, 26.2 miles.
- Half Marathon.
- 10K.
- 5K.
- 26.2 Relay with four legs of approximately 8.5 miles, 4.6 miles, 8.5 miles, and 4.6 miles.
All four course layouts are USATF certified and the event is sanctioned by USATF. The Marathon is a Boston Qualifier. Aid stations are placed at the start and finish, turnaround points, and near the South River bridge, offering water, Gatorade, fruit, and snacks. Facilities include drop bag service, porta-potties at multiple locations, chip timing, custom finisher medals, and race shirts. A virtual option is available for the Marathon, Half, 10K, and 5K with mailed amenities and self-reported times; virtual participants are not eligible for awards. Walkers are permitted in the 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon. Refillable containers are encouraged at aid stations to reduce waste. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
