Cheetah Chase 5K at Binder Park Zoo
The Cheetah Chase 5K is a running and walking event held at Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek, Michigan. The race features a unique course that transits through the heart of the zoo and the surrounding woodlands. Participants follow a route that offers views of the African savanna, with the opportunity to see animals such as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and cheetahs.
The course incorporates a variety of terrains, including:
- Asphalt
- Brick
- Boardwalk
- Crushed rock
- Grass
The physical layout of the route includes tight turns, steep hills, and flat stretches. The event is divided into two primary categories: the Gazelle Gallop, which is a 5K run, and the Sloth Walk, a 5K walk. Jog-style strollers are permitted on the course but are required to line up behind the walkers at the start.
Timed results are provided for both the running and walking events. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in various age categories, ranging from 14 and younger to 70 and older, as well as to overall and master winners. Registration includes a performance race shirt for those who sign up by the specified deadline, a day-of-admission pass to the zoo, and a beverage redemption coupon.
Spectators are permitted to view the race from designated areas around the start and finish lines, pavilions, and the zoo parking lot. Access to the interior of the zoo for spectators requires the purchase of a general admission ticket once the zoo gates officially open for the day.
