Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon
The Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon is a multi distance race held in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, staged on the Chattanooga Green adjacent to the Tennessee Aquarium. The event returns for year 45 and notes a new venue in 2027 with details to come.
Race distances by format:
- Sprint: 400 m swim, 20k bike, 5k run
- Olympic: 1.5k swim, 40k bike, 6 miles run
Swim courses are downstream point to point in the Tennessee River and finish near City Pier. The Olympic swim begins at the Manker Patten Tennis Center with shuttle service from the main staging area. Sprint swimmers walk to the boat dock under Market Street Bridge. The swim is run as a time trial with racers entering the water about every three seconds and start order assigned by estimated swim time. A bag drop is available at both swim starts using the provided bag clearly marked with name and bib.
The bike course uses Riverside Drive and Amnicola Highway. The sprint course is out and back and the Olympic course is two loops. Bikes use the inside lanes of the four lane road with cones separating traffic and the course will be controlled by local police. The run is mainly on the Riverwalk with a short section on Riverfront Parkway and the Olympic course completes two loops; runners are asked to stay left to maintain flow.
The event offers individual triathlon, swim and bike only, bike and run only, and 2 or 3 person relay options. USA Triathlon competitive rules are enforced. Wetsuit rules follow USAT temperature criteria and wearing a wetsuit in certain warm ranges affects award eligibility. Timing uses disposable ankle chip bands, body marking, helmet and bike frame numbers, wrist bands, and bib numbers. Packet pick up requires photo ID and racers must pick up their own packet.
