Chattahoochee Challenge Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon
The Chattahoochee Challenge takes place in Columbus, Georgia, featuring a variety of multisport options along the Riverwalk. Participants can choose between several competitive formats:
- Sprint Triathlon: a 500 m downstream swim, a 12 mile bike ride, and a 5 km run.
- Duathlon: a 1 mile run, a 12 mile bike ride, and a 3.2 mile run.
- Floatie Division: a 500 m downstream float using a personal inflatable, a 12 mile bike ride, and a 5 km run.
The triathlon swim portion begins with an optional water slide entry into the river. Athletes enter the water one at a time in a time-trial format. The river in this section typically has a depth between 4 and 6 feet.
The bike course totals 12 miles and is situated on the Columbus Riverwalk. The run course consists of a single flat loop. An aid station is positioned approximately 200 yards from the transition area, which participants pass twice during the run.
The event includes categories for individual age groups, relay teams, and specific weight-based divisions such as Clydesdale (220 lbs+) and Athena (165 lbs+). All participants receive a medal and a t-shirt, and triathletes are provided with a swim cap. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three in each age group and relay category.
