Chain of Rocks 6K
The Chain of Rocks 6K is a running and walking event held at the iconic Old Chain of Rocks Bridge on Route 66. The course starts and finishes at the bridge parking lot on the Illinois side in Granite City. This 6 km route is described as undulating and fast, offering views of the Mississippi River.
The race course begins in the Illinois parking lot, proceeds approximately half a mile toward the river before turning back, and then crosses the Historic Chain of Rocks Bridge one mile into Missouri. Participants then turn around for a downhill finish back at the original starting location. The event is professionally timed, with results posted following the race.
Participants can enter the event as individuals or as part of a team division. The team competition is open to local running clubs, with the top three men and top three women from each group scoring points toward a team trophy. All finishers in the 2026 edition will receive a finisher medal, and event shirts are available for purchase.
Awards are presented to the top three overall finishers in the men's, women's, and non-binary categories. The event is organized by Spewak Racing, a non-profit organization, with proceeds benefiting the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation to support youth programs and community equity.
Packet pickup takes place on several days leading up to the race at locations in Edwardsville and St. Louis. There is no packet pickup available on the morning of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
