North Downs Way 50
The North Downs Way 50 is a 50 mile point to point trail race on the North Downs Way National Trail from Farnham in Surrey to Knockholt Pound near Greater London. The course covers the first 50 miles of the NDW100, records a total climb of 5,600 ft (1,700 m) and is run on approximately 80% trail and 20% road. This is the 16th running of the event and it is the second race in the 50 Mile Grand Slam. The event has a 13 hour finish cut off, a field of 300 starters and an entry fee of £118.
The route passes Puttenham, Guildford, Ranmore Common, the steep ascent to the top of Box Hill, Colley Hill, Merstham and Oxted before the final miles to Knockholt Pound. The course follows North Downs Way signposts carrying the acorn symbol and is additionally marked with Centurion arrows and pink ribbons. There are several busy road crossings that may not be marshalled and runners are responsible for their own safety at road junctions.
Six fully stocked aid stations offer drinks, gels, snacks and hot food at the finish. Race medics will be available across aid stations with two race ambulances and static medical cover at the finish; in an emergency runners should call 999. Pacers and crew are not permitted and spectators must not attend check points. Mandatory kit is checked at random and includes a charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket with sealed seams, whistle, headtorch of at least 100 lumens, a cup and the supplied GPS tracking unit.
