Event overview
The North Downs Way 50® is a point-to-point ultra running event held on 16 May 2026. The route follows the North Downs Way National Trail from Farnham in Surrey to Knockholt Pound on the outskirts of Greater London. The distance is 50 miles (81 km) with total climb 5,600 ft (1,700 m). The event is listed as the 15th annual running of this race and is the second race in the 50 Mile Grand Slam. The minimum age for entry is 20.
Course and logistics
The route stays on the North Downs Way until the final half mile into the finish. It passes Puttenham, Guildford, Ranmore Common, Box Hill, Colley Hill, Merstham and Oxted before reaching Knockholt Pound. Terrain is listed as about 20% road and 80% trail. The course is marked by North Downs Way signposts, Centurion marker arrows and pink ribbons. Runners are responsible for safe navigation and for negotiating unmarked or un-mars halled road crossings.
Support, rules and kit
There are 6 fully stocked aid stations along the course and hot food and drinks at the finish. Medical cover includes race medics, static finish medical provision and two race ambulances. Pacers and crew are not permitted and spectators are not allowed near checkpoints. Mandatory kit is required and random kit checks will be carried out; a one hour time penalty is applied for missing mandatory items. A finish bag may be deposited at registration; maximum bag size 50 litres.
Entry and cut offs
Entries open 21 June 2025 and close 4 May 2026. The entry fee is listed as £115 (£117 unaffiliated). Runners must finish within a 13 hour time limit and must meet the organiser's qualification standard of a completed marathon within the event cut off between 1 January 2020 and race day.
