North Downs Way 100
The North Downs Way 100 is a continuous trail race covering a distance of 103 miles (167 km) along the North Downs Way National Trail. The course begins in Farnham at the western end of the Surrey Hills and concludes at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford, Kent. Participants navigate a route that consists of 80% trail and 20% road, involving a total ascent of 11,000 feet (3,350 meters).
The route passes through various locations including Puttenham, Guildford, Ranmore Common, and Box Hill. It continues through Reigate Hill, Merstham, Oxted, and Knockholt Pound before crossing the Medway Bridge. The final stages lead runners through Detling, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, and Charing. The event has a strict 30-hour time limit and serves as a Western States Qualifier.
To participate, runners must meet a specific qualification standard by completing at least one 50-mile race within 15 hours during a defined timeframe. The event provides 12 aid stations stocked with various hydration options, sweet and savoury snacks, and hot food at specific checkpoints.
Mandatory equipment is required for all participants, including:
- A mobile phone and 1-litre water capacity
- A survival blanket, whistle, and waterproof jacket with sealed seams
- A long-sleeved base layer and a reusable cup
- Primary and backup headtorches (required from mile 50)
Course markings consist of permanent National Trail acorn markers supplemented by red and white reflective tape and directional arrows. Support crews and pacers are permitted at designated points along the second half of the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
