Historical Racing in New Jersey
The Cedar Bridge Tavern 5K takes place in Barnegat and is organized as part of the RevolutionNJ Race Series. This series is held in conjunction with the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the United States, highlighting various historic locations across New Jersey. The event serves to connect participants with the state's Revolutionary War history at a site that played a significant role during the conflict.
The race route incorporates the Cedar Bridge Tavern, providing an interactive experience for runners and history enthusiasts. The event concept draws inspiration from the historical run of Jonas Cattell, who traveled to warn troops of a British attack at the Red Bank Battlefield. This race is one of six events in the series, with other locations including Fort Lee Historic Park, Monmouth Battlefield, Princeton Battlefield, Red Bank Battlefield, and Batsto Village.
Participants can choose from the following event options:
- 5 km run
- 1 mile walk
The event is managed and timed by TNT Event Management. On-site registration is available on the morning of the event at the Cedar Bridge Tavern. The gathering brings together runners, families, and community members to observe the regional past through fitness. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
