Cathedral Caverns Trail Run
The event is a trail race at Cathedral Caverns State Park in Woodville, AL. The program includes two distances:
- 15K
- 5K
Both courses begin in a valley with mountains and fields visible from the start. The final 1.2 miles of each race run through the cave as an out-and-back 0.6 mile segment. Runners pick up a glow stick at the turnaround point and decorative lighting inside the cave is on throughout the cave segment. The cave temperature is a steady 58F; average outdoor temperatures for race day are listed as a low of 44F and a high of 67F.
The event uses cupless race practices. Participants must carry a hand bottle, pack, or reusable cup; a reusable cup is offered for purchase for $5. Aid stations on course provide water, Gatorade, Coke, pretzels, M&M's, and other items. Each distance is capped at 300 runners. All registrants receive a shirt and a finisher medal; shirts are tri-blend.
Packet pickup locations are a Running Lane store on the Friday before the race and on race day under the start-area tent at Cathedral Caverns State Park. The organizer is RunningLane Events. Cutoffs are 1 hour 15 minutes for the 5K and 2 hours 30 minutes for the 15K to align with post-race cave tours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
