Cathedral Caverns Trail Run : Woodville, AL
This trail event is held at Cathedral Caverns State Park, 637 Cave Rd, Woodville, AL. The event offers two distances:
- 5K - updated route with 0.9 mile gravel and paved approach
- 15K - includes final 1.2 miles through the cave (out-and-back 0.6mi segment)
The course begins in a valley with mountains and fields visible from the start area. The cave segment is wide enough for two-way traffic; runners pick up a glow stick at the turnaround and decorative lighting is used inside the cave. The 5K route was adjusted to spread participants before entering single track trail.
Aid stations are on course and provide water, Gatorade, Coke, pretzels, M&M's, and additional items. This is a cupless event: participants must use a handheld bottle, pack, or reusable cup. A RunningLane reusable cup is available at checkout for $5.
Event details include entry caps of 300 runners per distance. All registered participants receive a tri-blend race shirt and a finisher medal. Cutoffs are enforced for course access and subsequent cave tours: the 5K cutoff is 1 hour 15 minutes (24:00 min/mi) and the 15K cutoff is 2 hours 30 minutes (16:40 min/mi). Average race-day temperatures are listed as a low of 44 F and a high of 67 F; cave temperature is about 58 F. Limited cabins are available at Cathedral Caverns State Park.
