Catamount Climb Half Marathon and 5K
The Catamount Climb Half Marathon and 5K takes place on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. This event, formerly known as Valley of the Lilies, is hosted by the Western Carolina University School of Health Sciences and the Department of Campus Recreation & Wellness. The courses are situated along the banks of the Tuckasegee River.
The event offers two distinct distances:
- 5 km
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)
The 5 km course is located entirely on the university campus and navigates through the central campus area with moderate changes in elevation. The 13.1 miles course begins on campus, extends off campus for several miles, and then returns to the campus for the finish.
Registered participants receive a race packet containing a race t-shirt, a race bib, and sponsorship materials. Finisher medals are provided to all participants who complete the half marathon. Custom placing medals are awarded to the overall male and female winners, overall master's winners, and the top three finishers in various age categories for both distances. All proceeds from the event are used to support student professional development and academic scholarships.
