Catamount Climb Half Marathon and 5K

The Catamount Climb Half Marathon and 5K takes place on April 11, 2026, on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, along the banks of the Tuckasegee River.

The 5K course is entirely on campus and navigates through the heart of campus with moderate elevation change. The half marathon begins on campus, goes off campus for several miles, and returns to campus for the finish.

The event is hosted by the Western Carolina University School of Health Sciences and the Department of Campus Recreation & Wellness. Race proceeds support student professional development and academic scholarships.

Registration for the 5K and the standard half marathon opens 08/29/2025 and closes 03/15/2026. A half marathon no medal option opens 03/25/2026 and closes 04/10/2026. Registration fees listed are $25.00 for the 5K, $45.00 for the half marathon, and $50.00 for the half marathon no medal option.

Each registered participant receives a race packet that includes a race t-shirt, a race bib, and various coupons and sponsorship materials. Packet pick up is scheduled at the WCU Campus Recreation Center on April 10, 2026, 3pm-7pm and on the morning of April 11, 2026, 6:30am-7:30am. Finisher medals are awarded to all half marathon finishers.

Awards for the half marathon include custom placing medals for overall male and female winners, overall masters male and female winners, and the top three male and female in each age group: 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. The 5K awards include custom medals for overall male and female winners, overall masters male and female winners, and the top three male and female in each age group: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.
