Trail Running in Carson Valley
The Carson Valley Trails Association hosts its biennial Run the Valley event at James Lee Memorial Park in Carson City, Nevada. This trail-based event utilizes the newest sections of the local trail network, offering participants multiple distances through northern Nevada's natural landscape at the base of the mountains.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 10k (6 miles): A loop starting with a single-track climb and exploring the Jacks Valley and James Lee Loops.
- 5k (3.55 miles): A loop starting with a single-track climb and following trails within the James Lee Loops.
- 2k Family Fun Run: A flat course using crushed granite paths and single-track trails.
The 2k event is free for families and accommodates off-road strollers and leashed dogs. Children under 12 participating in the 2k receive a finisher medal. For the 5k and 10k events, registration includes a one-year membership to the Carson Valley Trails Association. Current members are eligible for a registration discount.
All finishers of the 5k and 10k receive technical shirts. While the 2k is free, participants in that distance have the option to purchase shirts as an add-on. Race bibs are distributed on-site at James Lee Memorial Park on the morning of the event. Free parking is available at the park lots. Due to the high-desert climate in late September, layering clothing is recommended. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
