The Great Ski Race 2027
The Great Ski Race takes place in Tahoe City, California at the Tahoe Cross Country Center on March 7, 2027. The event offers two nordic ski loop options that both start and finish at the Tahoe Cross Country Center.
- 26 km nordic ski loop around Mt. Watson and north Lake Tahoe
- 10 km nordic ski loop on the undulating trails of the nordic center
A timed 26 km race and a timed 10 km race are offered, plus a Tour Wave option for the 26 km course. The Tour Wave is untimed, will not have posted online results, requires a self-start at TXC during the designated start window, and is limited to the first 35 participants; Tour Wave skiers are expected to know the course and yield to racers.
Packet pickup and race-day bib pickup are available, with early pickup scheduled before the event. Awards are given for overall times for men and women and for multiple age-group categories beginning with 9 and under and continuing by age ranges. Live music and a finish-line party with food follow the races.
The event is the main fundraiser for Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue, a non-profit all-volunteer organization; proceeds fund equipment purchases and winter survival and avalanche education programs. Registration is capped at 800 participants, fees increase as the event approaches, and refunds are not available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
