The Great Ski Race 2027
The Great Ski Race is a nordic ski event held at the Tahoe Cross Country Center in Tahoe City, California on March 7, 2027. The event offers two course options that both start and finish at the nordic center.
- 26 km nordic ski loop around Mt. Watson with views of north Lake Tahoe.
- 10 km nordic ski loop that stays low on the undulating trails of the nordic center.
A Tour Wave option lets skiers complete the 26 km course at a leisurely pace; this wave is untimed, has no posted online race results, and is limited to the first 35 participants. Bib numbers correspond to assigned start waves and race officials direct skiers into start corrals; starting in the wrong wave may result in disqualification.
Both course distances are followed by a finish line party with food and live music. Awards are provided for overall times for men and women and for age groups (9 and under; 10-11; 12-13; 14-15; 16-17; 18-19; 20-29 and up by tens).
The event is the main fundraising race for Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue, a non-profit all-volunteer organization; proceeds are used to purchase equipment and to support winter survival and avalanche education programs. Registration is capped at 800 participants, registration fees increase as the event approaches, and refunds are not available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
