The Great Ski Race 2027 - Event details
The Great Ski Race takes place on March 7, 2027 at the Tahoe Cross Country Center in Tahoe City, California. The event offers two organized nordic ski loop distances that both start and finish at the nordic center:
- 26 km loop around Mt. Watson with views of north Lake Tahoe
- 10 km loop that stays lower on the undulating trails of the nordic center
Both courses include varied terrain. A noncompetitive Tour Wave option follows the 26 km course; this wave is not timed, does not produce posted online results, requires participants to self-start at the nordic center in a brief pre-race window, and is limited to the first 35 entrants. Tour Wave participants are expected to know the course and yield to faster racers.
The event includes a finish line gathering with food and live music. Awards are given for overall times (men and women) and by age groups, including youth categories and decade-based adult groups starting at 20-29. Registration is limited to 800 participants. Fees increase in stages up to race day and are the same for both distances. The Great Ski Race is the primary fundraiser for Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue; proceeds support equipment purchases and winter survival and avalanche education programs.
