Trail Running in Rabbit Ings Country Park
Carry on in the Colliery is a trail running event held at Rabbit Ings Country Park in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The event is part of the Yorkshire Colliery Weekend and features a 5 mile lapped course. The route consists of loops through the natural landscape, with each lap containing one short, steep climb that provides views of the surrounding countryside.
Participants can choose from a wide variety of distances to suit different goals:
- 5 miles (1 loop)
- 10 miles (2 loops)
- 15 miles (3 loops)
- 20 miles (4 loops)
- Marathon (5 loops plus an additional out-and-back section)
- Ultra Marathon / 30 miles (6 loops)
The event also includes a separate 5 mile Canine Canter for those running with dogs. All races are Trail Running Association licensed under UKA Rules. Feed stations offering food and drinks are positioned approximately every three miles. This is a cup-less event, so runners are expected to bring their own reusable bottles or cups.
The course is primarily off-road and may include unmarshalled road crossings. While the route is marked, organizers provide downloadable GPX files to assist with navigation. Parking and public toilets are available on-site at the country park. At the finish, all runners receive a finisher medal and a selection of snacks.
