Carlsbad 5000
The Carlsbad 5000 is an annual road race weekend held in Carlsbad, California, established in 1986. Events take place along Coast Highway 101 on an out-and-back oceanfront course that is flat, fast, and USATF certified. The finish line sits beneath the Carlsbad sign and is lined with spectators.
The weekend features multiple individual timed 5K races and additional race formats that accommodate a range of age groups and abilities, including Masters divisions (40 and older), Open divisions (39 and under), a non-competitive People’s Race for joggers and walkers, and an Elite Invitational.
Distances and formats
- 5K - individual timed races for various age and ability divisions
- All Day 20K - four consecutive 5K races totaling 20 kilometers
- Junior Carlsbad - kids 1 mile and 1/2 mile races for ages 4–12
Registration includes event items such as a premium race shirt, finisher medal, race photos and results, and access to a post-race beer garden with live music for 21 and older. A Health and Fitness Expo features sponsors, exhibitors, and an elite athlete Q&A.
All Day 20K entrants receive a dedicated pre-race and recovery zone with massage and recovery equipment, food and hydration, private bathrooms, and a secure gear check.
