Carl Sandburg Athletic Booster 5K Run/Walk
The inaugural Carl Sandburg Athletic Booster 5K Run/Walk takes place on September 13, 2026, in Orland Park at the 153rd Street Metra Station, IL 60462. The event is open to the public and is organized to raise funds for senior scholarships and for purchasing equipment and technology for the Athletic Department that fall outside the regular budget.
The distance is 5K (3.1 Miles). Two registration categories are listed: Public with a registration fee of $40 and Student D135 & D230 with a registration fee of $25. Registration opens July 1, 2026 and closes August 1, 2026. Shirts are guaranteed for registrations completed by September 1, 2026.
Pre-race packet pickup is available Wednesday, September 9 through Saturday, September 12 at The Human Race Sports, 15148 LaGrange Rd, Orland Park, with store hours Monday–Friday 10:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 17:00. Race day packet pickup will be available near the start and finish area.
Awards include overall 5K prizes for the top male and top female by gun time and age group awards for top male and top female by net time in the classes 9 & Under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 & Over. Age group double dipping is not allowed. Teams compete for coach wish list funds with prizes of $500 for first place, $300 for second, and $150 for third. Previously the program provided 27 senior athletes with $2,000 scholarships. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
