Event Overview
The Capitol Peak races take place in the Capitol Forest, starting and finishing at the Fall Creek Trailhead. This event marks over two decades of trail running in the region, featuring a mix of single-track trails and gravel road sections. The course environment is a working forest, meaning specific paths may be adjusted to accommodate forest operations.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 50 miles
- 25 km (approximately 16 miles)
Course Details
The 50 mile ultra-marathon includes a route to Capitol Peak and an out-and-back segment on the Porter Trail. This course features seven aid stations. The first station provides water and limited food, while subsequent stations offer more variety. Drop bags are permitted for the 50 mile runners at Fall Creek, Capitol Peak, and Wedekind.
The 25 km course includes two aid stations. Both race distances conclude with a descent toward the finish line back at the Fall Creek Trailhead. Participants in the 50 mile race must adhere to cut-off times at mile 27 and mile 42.
Logistics and Facilities
The event is held at the Fall Creek Day Use Area. Parking requires a Discover Pass to be displayed on the vehicle dashboard. Runners must also provide a signed DNR waiver during check-in. Camping is available at the Falls Creek Campground for the Friday night preceding the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
Post-race food is provided for all registered participants. Dogs are allowed at the start/finish area and on the course, provided they remain on a leash. Age group winners in both categories receive custom coffee mugs as awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
