Capital City Marathon
The Capital City Marathon is a multi-distance running weekend held in Olympia, Washington. The 45th edition takes place on May 16 and 17, 2026, with event activity centered at Sylvester Park.
Distances offered:
- Marathon
- Half marathon
- Five mile
- Kids' run
The event features a course described as beautiful with rolling hills and a strong volunteer presence. It is certified as a Boston Marathon qualifier. A post-race festival in the park includes food, music, massage and participant swag.
The races are planned and operated by the Capital City Marathon Association, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. The event relies on hundreds of volunteers and identifies specific needs for course safety, packet pickup and registration, and gear drop and return teams.
Community involvement is a core element of the weekend. Local businesses and organizations contribute through sponsorships, water stops, refreshments, locally printed shirts and locally sourced awards. Area high schools and the community college participate in event support and operations, continuing a longstanding practice of involving students in race-day roles.
The association frames the weekend as a community-focused athletic event that supports local vendors, student participation and volunteer engagement while providing competitive and recreational running opportunities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
