Event Overview

The Cape Wrath Ultra is a multi-stage ultra-running event held annually in May. The journey starts in Fort William and concludes at the Cape Wrath Lighthouse, the north-western tip of mainland Scotland. The route traverses some of the most remote and rugged areas in the Scottish Highlands, passing through locations such as Knoydart, Kintail, Torridon, Assynt, and Sutherland.

Participation Options

There are three distinct formats available for participants:

  • Cape Wrath Ultra: A full 400 km course completed over eight consecutive days.
  • Cape Wrath Explorer: A flexible option where participants can choose to complete sections of the race route each day.
  • Cape Wrath 100: A 100-mile challenge completed over the first three days of the event.

Course Details

The full eight-day itinerary includes the following daily distances:

  • Day 1: 37 km (23 miles) from Fort William to Glenfinnan.
  • Day 2: 57 km (35 miles) through the Knoydart wilderness.
  • Day 3: 68 km (42 miles) through the mountains of Kintail.
  • Day 4: 35 km (22 miles) of technical terrain toward Kinlochewe.
  • Day 5: 44 km (27 miles) across the Fisherfield Forest.
  • Day 6: 72 km (45 miles) from Inverbroom to Inchnadamph.
  • Day 7: 61 km (38 miles) through moorlands and sea lochs.
  • Day 8: 26 km (16 miles) finishing at the lighthouse.
