Capalbo Strong Walk
The Capalbo Strong Walk is a community walk held to honor its namesake, a young man who faced pediatric cancers and who died in April 2022 at age 23. The event began in 2017 and was founded by a group of Fairfield Prep hockey parents during his first treatment. Over the years the walk has brought people together to support families affected by cancer.
Proceeds support pediatric cancer research and related family services. The walk has previously participated as part of the Jimmy Fund Walk to raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a memorial fund that supports acute myeloid leukemia research. The organizing team has applied for nonprofit status to expand how raised funds are directed, including the ability to award grants to local hospitals and programs that supported the family.
The event is scheduled for October 4, 2026 at Jennings Beach in Fairfield, CT. The primary course is 24K (15 miles) on a loop that starts and finishes at Jennings Beach and travels through nearby Fairfield. The loop design allows participants to complete one 5 mile lap, two laps, or the full distance. At various points the course remains close to the beach.
Walkers are asked to pay the registration fee and meet minimum fundraising targets: a minimum of $300 for in-person participants and a minimum of $100 for virtual participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
